About Electronic Pool & Spa Sanitizers: We recommend that every pool or spa have at least an ionizer which will reduce chemicals 80% to 90%. For pools we recommend model PI-D, and for spas model SI-D, or Instant Ions model IONS-25 and a Copper Test kit model CTK. If you want total chemical free water in your pool, we recommend a THUNDER ozone generator model T2000 or T4000, model TMIS or T24MIS ozone mixing injector system, and an ionizer model PI-D. For a spa Model T500TS will provide total chemical free sanitation. A PURITY combination salt chlorine generator and ionizer is a great option if you do not mind a very low .1 to .2 ppm of chlorine. How is THUNDER Installed?

THUNDER is easily installed to new or existing spas. Most spas are pre plumbed and wired for ozone so installation is very easy. The 3/8" tubing is connected to the existing spa ozone tubing and the plug is plugged into the ozone receptacle on the equipment pack. If the spa is not ozone ready THUNDER can be plumbed into the spa air venturi system near an air control so it injects ozone when the spa circulation system operates. Do not use this method if the spa jets are supercharged with an air blower. If Thunder is used on a spa where the circulating system is remotely located and is not located below the spa models T500TS or S24CPK will be needed. The very best method of injecting ozone for spas is to use models T500TS or S24CPK which provide 24 hour ozone injection and proper mixing of ozone with the spa water. Available with AMP, J&J Mini, or Standard 3 Prong Wall Plug. See your owners manual for type needed. Please specify which you need. If not specified Thunder will be shipped with the J&J Mini plug since it is the most common. Model T500TS will come with a Standard 3 Prong plug.

What do I need to know about my spa when ordering?

You will need to know what type and voltage of plug you need to plug into your spa equipment pack, and if your spa is ozone ready. If it is not ozone ready you will need to order our injector kit or air pump kit. For 240 volts you will need to order a 240 volt unit. Most 240 volt spas have 120 volts to the ozone plug.

Should I ionize my spa water?

Yes, you should purchase our model SI-D ionizer, or a pint bottle of Instant Ions model IONS 25, and a copper Test Kit model CTK, unless you are ordering model T500TS which comes with Instant Ions and a copper test kit. Instant Ions is an ionizer in a bottle and the pint bottle will last 1 to 2 years in most spas. The level of copper in the water from the Instant Ions is tested weekly with the copper test kit, and Instant Ions is added as needed. If your spa water is ionized your chlorine or bromine level will only need to be maintained at only .2 to .5 ppm if used without an ozone generator, or with an ozone generator installed to a typical ozone jet. Ionization will save you money and greatly improve your water quality.

Should I keep a bromide reserve in my spa water with a THUNDER ozonator?

Yes, we recommend that a bromide bank be kept in every spa that uses a THUNDER ozonator. A bromide reserve is created by adding just 2 oz of sodium bromide (Bromine Salt) to your spa water for every 400 gallons. Sodium bromide is a salt and not a bromine sanitizer. This allows the ozonator to activate the bromide ions as they come in contact with ozone, which is an oxidizer. A small bromine residual of .1 to .5 ppm will develop providing more efficient sanitation, and better and clearer water quality. This low level of bromine will not be noticeable or cause any negative problems associated with the use of chemicals. Sodium bromide is a salt and stays in the water and can be used over and over again. This is free additional sanitation as it costs nothing extra to produce once the bromide reserve is established. Sodium Bromide will only need to be added when spa is drained and filled.

A copper test kit is required to test the copper level every 2 weeks to maintain a .3 ppm of copper in your spa. You will need to add Instant Ions to your spa water as needed every 2 to 8 weeks. THUNDER Injection Systems

If you want 24 hour ozone sanitation and you already have a high output ozone generator of at least 500 mg/h, this 24 hour Circulating Pump Kit and our Instant Ions and a copper test kit will provide total spa sanitation. Your spas large 2 speed pump only operates a few hours a day and will not provide enough ozone for total sanitation. The circulating pump is installed in-line with the ozone jet water line which is usually 3/4" ID tubing. You should make sure you can get to the tubing to install the pump before ordering.
