About Electronic Pool & Spa Sanitizers: We recommend that every pool or spa have at least an ionizer which will reduce chemicals 80% to 90%. For pools we recommend model PI-D, and for spas model SI-D, or Instant Ions model IONS-25 and a Copper Test kit model CTK. If you want total chemical free water in your pool, we recommend a THUNDER ozone generator model T2000 or T4000, model TMIS or T24MIS ozone mixing injector system, and an ionizer model PI-D. For a spa Model T500TS will provide total chemical free sanitation. A PURITY combination salt chlorine generator and ionizer is a great option if you do not mind a very low .1 to .2 ppm of chlorine. Mixing of Ozone and Water is Created in the 4 loops of 3/4" ID Tubing Improving the Efficiency of the Ozone Generator. Off-Gassing is Greatly Reduced, Reducing the Contact of Ozone with Pool Components. Saves Energy as pump uses only 55 watts of power. The run time of the main pump, which typically uses about 1800 watts, can be reduced by 20 to 40%. That is $8 to $20 a month in energy savings.

Should I keep a bromide reserve in my pool water with a THUNDER ozonator?

Yes, we recommend that a bromide bank be kept in every pool that uses a THUNDER ozonator. A bromide reserve is created by adding just 3 lbs of sodium bromide (Bromine Salt) to your pool water for every 10,000 gallons. Sodium bromide is a salt and not a bromine sanitizer. This allows the ozonator to activate the bromide ions as they come in contact with ozone, which is an oxidizer. A small bromine residual of .1 to .5 ppm may develop providing more efficient sanitation, and better and clearer water quality. This low level of bromine will not be noticeable or cause any negative problems associated with the use of chemicals. Once or twice a year a little more sodium bromide is added to the pool water to maintain the bromide reserve as water is replaced due to splash out and back washing. Sodium bromide is a salt and stays in the water and can be used over and over again. This is free additional sanitation as it costs nothing extra to produce once the bromide reserve is established. This also provides an easy method of testing the water with low ppm chlorine or bromine test kits.

How are THUNDER and a Mixing Injector System Installed?

They are easily installed to new or existing pools. If using THUNDERSORM model TMIS with THUNDER one tee fitting is installed before the filter and one tee is installed after the filter creating a bypass loop around the filter. The in-line injector (venturi) is installed in the bypass loop, and the power is wired to the pump timer circuit. . If using model T24MIS the two tees are installed after the filter with the check valve between the two tees. The small pump, injector, and tubing are connected in a bypass loop connected to the two tees. Both types of installation do not restrict the water flow. The ozone tubing from THUNDER is connected to the injector included with your injector system. The injector sucks the ozone out of the ozone generator as water passes rapidly through the injector.

Can an ionizer be used with THUNDER?

We highly recommend using one of our Sunshine Ionizers with Thunder for the very best water quality. By using both it is possible to eliminate using chlorine or any other sanitizer. The ozone generator must be a properly sized high output generator and used with our THUNDERSTORM injector system model TMIS, or with model T24MIS, and with an ionizer. With an ionizer and an ozone generator algae problems will be a thing of the past because the ionizer eliminates algae. See our Sunshine Ionizer page for more information on ionizers. If you use ozone without an ionizer you will need to maintain 1 to 3 ppm chlorine level or 2 to 4 ppm Bromine level in the water at all times, but you will use much less chlorine or bromine.

How do I determine what size system will treat my pool?

For most pools we recommend model T2000 and an ionizer such as model PI-D, and for larger pools over 25,000 gallons we recommend models T4000 and PI-D. The longer the daily circulating pump run time the better if using model TMIS. At least 8 hours is required. If operated 12 hours or less a day you should use model T24MIS or will need a larger system such as a model T4000 and PI-D Ionizer. In humid climates with humidity above 70% use one size larger unit. Large commercial pools should use multiple T4000 systems and one of our large commercial ionizers.

What do I need to know about my pool when ordering?

You will need to know if your filter pump is connected to 120 or 240 volts, and if your filtration plumbing is
1 1/2" or 2". THUNDER voltage can not be changes, so you must order the proper voltage.
