THUNDER Model T500 Corona Discharge Ozone Generator

Installation, Operating, and Maintenance Instructions

The supplied components include:

1.      T500 Ozone Generator

2.      3 ft. vinyl tubing with Check Valve

3.      4 mounting screws.

Preparation:

1.      THUNDER must be mounted on a vertical surface.  It is best if it is protected from the weather and water.  Mount the controller with the four screws provided in the slots near the corners of the controller.

Tubing Connection.

1.      See your spa manufacturers instructions for installing an ozone generator to your existing spa tubing.

2.      Connect the check valve at the end of the tygon tubing to the tubing supplied with your spa using the proper size tubing connector.  If your spa has no tubing to connect to, your spa may not be ozone ready and you will need an air pump or an injector system to introduce the ozone to your spa water.  Contact your dealer for parts and information on installing to a spa that is not ozone ready.

3.      Do not connect anything to the air filter unless you are installing an air pump kit to THUNDER.

4.      If installing THUNDER on a pool, you should have purchased and injector system.  See injector kit instructions for proper installation and operation.

5.      If you purchased our 24-hour circulating pump kit, follow its installation instructions.

Electrical

  1. Turn off the power to your spa equipment.
  2. If you ordered the proper plug for your spa you should be able to plug the plug into the ozone receptacle on your spa.  Make sure it is the proper voltage.  Cut the plug off the cord if you need to wire the cord directly into your spa equipment pack.  The black wire is the hot wire; the white wire is the neutral or the other hot wire if 240 volts, and the green wire is the ground wire.  THUNDER must be wired to operate when the spa pump, or 24 hour circulating pump if you have one or are installing one, is running i.e. both units start simultaneously.  If you are not sure how to connect the AC power, have a licensed electrician do it for you.

Startup

  1. Your spa on startup must be clean, sanitized, the pH adjusted to 7.2 to 7.6.
  2. With THUNDER you will only need to maintain .5 to 1 ppm chlorine or 1 to 2 ppm bromine.  If used with an ionizer the sanitizer level can be maintained even lower or only shocked with liquid chlorine about once a week.  If you are installing our 24-hour system you will need little or no sanitizing chemicals.
  3. If you purchased one of our ionizer systems, make sure it is installed at the same time.

Operation

  1. Turn on power to your spa equipment.
  2. Clean your spa filter.
  3. Start your spa circulating pump.  Check to make sure the green light on THUNDER is on.  Listen to your THUNDER unit.  You should here a buzzing sound coming from it.  If it is buzzing it is producing ozone.  If ever you think your unit may not be producing ozone, listen for the buzzing sound.  If you here the buzzing sound, it is producing ozone.  You may need to put your ear directly on your unit to here it.  Look to see if air is being injected into your spa.  If it is not check your spa owners manual for information on ozone operation.
  4. If you have one of our injector systems see its instructions for proper operation and adjustments.
  5. Do not operate THUNDER unless the circulating pump is running and air is being injected into the spa.
  6. Keep these instructions and your sales receipt in a safe place.  Refer to these instructions if you have any problems.  Do not call Sunshine Pool Products or your dealer with chemistry problems or questions.
