THUNDER 24-Hour Mixing Injector System

Installation and Operating Instructions

Model T24MIS

The supplied components include:

1.      Small Injector Pump

2.      4 Loops (20 feet) of ¾” ID Vinyl Hose

3.      Parts bag with Injector, Six 1” Hose Clamps, Two ¾” Adaptors, and 4 Wire Ties

4.      Two ¾” x 1-1/2” or ¾” x 2” PVC Tees

5.      1-1/2” or 2” Check Valve

Preparation

1.      Install your ozonator according to the instructions that came with your unit.  This kit must only be installed on pool equipment that is located above the pool water level.  All glue joints should be done with PVC glue and primer if required.  All threaded fittings should be sealed with thread sealant.  We recommend 5 to 6 wraps with Teflon tape.  All hose claps must be installed on both ends of ¾” ID hose before installing onto barb fittings.

Piping Connection

1.      Turn off the power to your pool equipment.

2.      Install one ¾” threaded x 1-1/2” or ¾” threaded x 2” tee after the filter, or after the heater whichever is easier.  It should be installed at the lowest point possible on either a vertical or horizontal pipe, and with the center port at the bottom if possible on a horizontal pipe.  This tee is installed in this fashion so that it stays primed with water.  This is the tee that the suction side of the injector pump will be connected to.  See FIG. 1.

3.      Install the check valve after the tee just installed so that water will flow through it after flowing through the tee.  Make sure it is installed with the arrow in the proper direction.  See FIG. 1.

4.      Install the other tee after the check valve.  The tee can be installed in any orientation that is most convenient.  In most cases the center port should be facing down if installed on a horizontal pipe.  This is the tee that the return side of the injector pump will be connected to.  See FIG. 1.

5.      If you are not sure how to install the fittings you should have a swimming pool contractor do it for you.

6.      Thread the two ¾” adaptors into the tees just installed.

7.      Place the pump on the ground where it is to be located.  It should be installed lower than the first tee installed if possible.

8.      Cut a length of ¾” ID hose long enough to connect from the first tee to the suction fitting of the pump.  Using pliers slide a hose clamps 3” unto both ends of the hose.  Slide the hose onto the first tee and the other end to the suction fitting of the pump.  Using pliers slide the 2 hose clamps over the hose and fittings.  See FIG. 1.

9.      Cut a 6” length of the ¾” hose.  Using pliers slide a hose clamp 3” unto both ends of the hose.  Slide the hose onto the return fitting of the pump and the other end to the inlet end of the injector.  Make sure the injector is installed in the proper direction.  Using pliers slide the 2 hose clamps over the hose and fittings.  See FIG. 1.

10.  Install the remainder of the ¾: ID hose onto the top end of the injector and position the hose so that it has 4 loops and is vertical as in FIG. 1.  Connect the other end of the hose to the tee installed after the check valve.  Install the hose clamps as before.

11.  Install the 4 black wire ties around the loops and to a pipe as need to keep it upright.  You will need to connect one tie to another to increase the length.  Slide one tie to the other just until it catches.  Do NOT over tighten the wire ties on the hose until it is pinched.

12.  Connect the 3/8” tubing from your ozone generator to the center port of the injector.

Electrical

  1. Turn off the power to your pool equipment.
  2. For 120 volt operation go to step 3.  For 240 volt operation go to step 4.
  3. The 120 volt pump is supplied with a 120-volt plug.  Cut the plug off the cord if you need to.  The black wire is a hot wire; the white wire is the neutral, and the green wire is the ground wire.  Check the nameplate for proper voltage.  The voltage cannot be changed.
  4. The 240-volt pump does not have a plug on the cord.  There are two hot wires.  Connect each wire to a hot wire from your AC power source.  There is not a ground wire on this model.  Check the nameplate for proper voltage.  The voltage cannot be changed.
  5. The injector pump and your THUNDER ozone generator must be wired so they have power 24 hours a day.  A switch to turn them both OFF and ON simultaneously is recommended.  If you are not sure how to connect the AC power, have a licensed electrician do it for you.

Startup

  1. If you purchased one of our ionizer systems, make sure it is installed at the same time.  If you do not have an ionizer, we highly recommend you purchase one of Sunshine Pool Products, LLC ionizers.
  2. Before startup the pool should be clean, sanitized, pH balanced, free of algae, and the filter cleaned.
  3. Turn on power to your pool equipment.

Operation

  1. Start your pool pump. Check ozonator and make sure it is on.
  2. Look to see if air is being injected into the 4 loops of hose after the injector.  It is difficult to see the tiny bubbles coming out the pool return fittings, but you should be able to see the bubbles if you look closely.  If you are not seeing air in the hose after the injector you may have too much backpressure from the pool inlets and you may need to change them to larger sizes.  The backpressure should be about 2 to 5 psi.  This is not the pump pressure.
  3. After running the main pump for several minutes, turn it off.  The injector pump and the ozone generator should remain on.  You should still see air bubbles in the 4 loops of the hose, but running slower.  After several minutes large air bubbles will come strait up from one or more of the return fittings.  You will not get tiny bubbles coming out because of the low flow rate in the large fittings.  If your system was installed on a dedicated pool return line and fitting with a small orifice of about ½” then you will see small bubbles coming from the return fitting horizontally and then rising.
  4. Do not operate ozonator unless the injector pump is running, and air is being injected into the pool.
  5. Now you will have the worlds most energy efficient injector system with 24 hour ozone injection.
  6. You can now reduce the runtime of your main pump 20 to 40%.
  7. During winter months when air temperature may reach below freezing winterize pool and pool equipment, and disconnect hose from suction side of injector pump or remove both hoses from pump and store indoors.
  8. Keep these instructions and your sales receipt in a safe place.  Refer to these instructions if you have any problems, and to the trouble guide of your ionizer for chemistry problems.  Do not call Sunshine Pool Products, LLC or your dealer with chemistry problems or questions.
